Working Principle and Notes of Stainless Steel Ball Valves

The working principle of stainless steel ball valves is to rotate the valve core to make the valve unobstructed or blocked. The valve body can be integral or combined. Here we will introduce the relevant knowledge of stainless steel ball valves to everyone.

Introduction to ball valves
Ball valves are mainly used in pipelines to cut off, distribute, and change the flow direction of the medium. The ball valve is widely used as a new type of valve. Its working principle is to rotate the valve core to make the valve unobstructed or blocked. Ball valves are lightweight and small in size. It can be made into large-diameter ones. They are reliable in sealing. They have a simple structure, and they are easy to maintain. The sealing surface and spherical surface are often in a closed state. They are not easily eroded by the media. They are widely used in various industries.

Characteristics of ball valves
Stainless steel ball valves can be tightly closed with only a 90-degree rotation and a small turning torque. The completely equal valve body cavity provides a small resistance and straight flow path for the medium. The main characteristic of ball valves is their compact structure, easy operation and maintenance. Stainless steel ball valves can be used to control the flow of various types of fluids such as air, water, steam, various corrosive media, mud, oil products, liquid metals, and radioactive media. The valve body of a ball valve can be integral or modular. This type of valve should generally be installed horizontally in pipelines. 

Classification of stainless steel ball valves: stainless steel pneumatic ball valves, stainless steel electric ball valves, and stainless steel manual ball valves. The material of stainless steel ball valves is divided into 304, 316, 321 stainless steel ball valves.

Notes for the operation of ball valves
1.​ Stainless steel valves should avoid contacting with other metals. It should be careful not to have garbage or other foreign objects enter the interior, and be stored in a well-ventilated environment.

2.​ In order to protect the gasket inside the ball valve, it should be in the fully open state. The gate valve, globe valve and the check valve should be stored in the fully closed state. 

3.​ Before piping construction, it is necessary to confirm the status of the interface, whether there is oil pollution, etc. If there is any, remove any attached foreign objects.

4.​ There is a specified flow direction on the valve body. During piping construction, the flow direction indicated on the valve body should be confirmed. During installation, the direction of the fluid should be consistent with the arrow on the valve body.

5.​ When connecting the pipe to the valve, first you should use a wrench to fix the valve end on the side close to the pipe, and then tighten the steel pipe with a pipe wrench. If the thread is tightened too much, the end of the steel pipe will damage the inside of the ball valve.

6.​ When tightening bolts, do not only tighten one side, but also tighten the corresponding diagonal bolts.

7. Valves that use sealing rings may experience a decrease in pressure on the sealing components during storage due to the characteristics of the sealing rings, leading to leakage. Before use, you should be sure to tighten the loose screws. Regularly check for loose screws during normal use.
