Differences between Electric Ball Valves and Cast Steel Hard Seal Gate Valves

The Comparison of Five Main Aspects

The selection of valves is crucial in modern fluid control systems. Electric ball valves and cast steel hard seal gate valves are two common types of valves. Each of them has unique characteristics and advantages.

This article will provide a detailed comparison of these two types of valves from five aspects: structures, typical applications, valve bodies, models and connection methods, and product features, to help readers better understand their differences.

1. Structural comparison

(1) The electric ball valve consists of an electric actuator and a ball valve with ball and ink adjustment, which has a compact structure and flexible operation.

(2) The cast steel hard seal gate valve adopts the principle of gate and seat sealing, with a simple structure but relatively weak sealing performance.

The ball of the electric ball valve can rotate within a range of 90 degrees, achieving rapid opening and closing, suitable for situations that require frequent operation.

2. Typical applications

(1) Electric ball valves are widely used in the HVAC water systems of commercial and public buildings, mainly for controlling the on/off and flow of hot water, chilled water, and cooling water. Its adjustable flow ratio is as high as 5:1, which can meet different flow requirements.

(2) Cast steel hard seal gate valves are more commonly used in water supply and drainage, sewage treatment and other systems, with stable sealing performance but relatively low operating frequency.

3. Valve bodies

(1) The valve body of electric ball valves is usually forged from high-strength brass or ductile iron, which has high strength and corrosion resistance.

(2) The valve body of cast steel hard seal gate valve is made of cast steel material, which has high pressure bearing capacity and sealing performance.

However, in terms of corrosion resistance, the valve body material of electric ball valves performs more outstandingly.

4. Comparison of models and connection methods

(1) Electric ball valves also have diversity in models and connection methods. DN25-DN50 electric ball valves are usually connected with internal threads for easy installation and disassembly. The DN65-DN150 electric ball valve adopts a double flange connection, which is suitable for larger diameter pipeline systems.

(2) Cast steel hard seal gate valves also have a wide range of models and connection methods, but it is usually necessary to choose the appropriate model and connection method according to specific working conditions.

5. The comparison of product features

(1) The electric ball valve has the characteristics of a graphite reinforced PTEE ball valve seat and a built-in valve disc, which makes its sealing performance more superior and the flow regulation more accurate. In addition, electric ball valves also have the advantages of easy operation and long service life.

(2) Cast steel hard seal gate valves are known for their stable sealing performance and high-pressure bearing capacity, but they are relatively weak in flow regulation.

In summary, there are certain differences between electric ball valves and cast steel hard seal gate valves in terms of structure, typical applications, valve bodies, models and connection methods, and product characteristics. When selecting valves, comprehensive consideration should be given to specific operating conditions and requirements to choose the appropriate valve type.
