Design Standards for Gate Valves

1. International Standards

American standards: ASME B16.34: It covers the general requirements for flanged, butt welded, and threaded end valves, including pressure temperature ratings, material requirements, dimensions, and tolerances. It is an important foundational standard for the design of gate valves.

API 600/ISO 10434 is for bolted steel gate valves specifically designed for the oil and gas industry. It specifies detailed requirements for the design, manufacturing, materials, inspection, and other aspects of gate valves, such as valve body wall thickness, stem strength, sealing performance, etc.

API 603: it is suitable for 150lb corrosion-resistant flange end cast gate valves, with special requirements for the selection and manufacturing process of corrosion-resistant materials.

British Standards

BS 1414 is a standard for steel gate valves in the petroleum, petrochemical, and refining industries, providing relevant specifications for the application of gate valves in these specific industrial fields.

Japanese Industrial Standards

The parts related to gate valves in JIS standards, such as JIS B2011-1999 "Bronze Gate Valves, Globe Valves, Angle Valves, and Check Valves," specify corresponding design and manufacturing requirements for gate valves of different materials and applications.

German National Standards

DIN 3352 is a German standard for gate valves, which involves requirements for the structure, size, performance, and other aspects of gate valves.

2. Chinese Standards

GB/T 12234: "Steel Gate Valves with Flange and Butt Welding Connections" specifies the technical requirements for the design, manufacturing, inspection, and acceptance of steel gate valves with flange and butt welding connections in China, including the structural form, dimensional tolerances, material selection, pressure testing, and other aspects of the valve.

JB/T 5298: "Steel Flat Gate Valves for Pipelines" is applicable to flat gate valves in pipeline systems such as oil and natural gas, and provides regulations for their design, manufacturing, and inspection.

3. Other Related Standards

Structural Length Standards

ASME B16.10 specifies the structural length of valves, including the length and dimension requirements for different types and specifications of gate valves, which are crucial for the installation and connection of valves.

GB/T 12221-2005: China's structural length standard in line with international standards, ensures that domestically produced gate valves comply with general installation and connection specifications in terms of structural length.

Connection Flange Standards

ASME B16.5: It is the American standard for steel flanges and flanged fittings, commonly used in the design of flange connections between gate valves and pipelines.

GB/T 9113: It is China's standard for connecting flanges, which specifies the size, pressure rating, sealing surface form, etc. of flanges to ensure compatibility between gate valves and pipeline systems.

Pressure and Temperature Rating Standards

GB/T 12224-2005: it specifies the pressure temperature ratings of valves to ensure safe and reliable operation of gate valves under different pressure and temperature conditions.

ASME B16.34 also includes relevant provisions for pressure temperature ratings, which in conjunction with other standards, provide comprehensive guidance on pressure temperature parameters for the design and use of gate valves.

Test and Inspection Standards

API 598: Valve Inspection and Testing Standards of the American Petroleum Institute specifies various testing methods and acceptance criteria for gate valves, such as pressure testing, sealing testing, etc.

GB/T 26480: "Inspection and Testing of Valves" is a valve inspection standard in China, which covers the requirements for inspection items, test procedures, and qualification judgment of gate valves to ensure that the quality and performance of gate valves meet the design standards.
